Position Overview:
The Billing and Collections Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounts receivable billing and collections across all Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) entities. From initial claims submission through final resolution, this role ensures timely, accurate, and compliant billing to primary and secondary payers. The position requires expert use of payer websites, multiple billing systems, and a strong understanding of third-party payer rules and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:

Submit claims to primary and secondary payers accurately and on time

Conduct follow-up activities to ensure full resolution and reimbursement of accounts

Utilize payer portals to track, verify, and troubleshoot claims

Interpret and apply payer and government billing rules and contractual agreements

Use multiple systems to manage all aspects of billing workflow

Maintain strict confidentiality and provide exceptional customer service via phone, email, and in person

Communicate professionally with patients, payers, and internal departments

Assist in troubleshooting business equipment and resolving workflow interruptions

Support the department by meeting performance standards and strict deadlines
Qualifications:
Education & Training:

Associate’s degree (or equivalent knowledge level required)
Experience:
-
Prior registration and admitting experience preferred

Minimum 1–2 years of billing or accounts receivable experience strongly preferred
Skills & Requirements:

Advanced knowledge of third-party billing procedures and payer guidelines

Strong understanding of contractual agreements with insurers

Excellent oral, written, and phone communication skills

High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities

Strong typing and computer skills; familiarity with billing and EHR systems

Ability to work under pressure and handle interruptions calmly
