Billing Specialist – Arnold & Porter (Remote or Hybrid)

Arnold & Porter’s Finance and Accounting Department is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to join our team. This role can be fully remote in a firm-approved U.S. state or hybrid in our Chicago, Denver, Houston, or Washington, DC offices. As a Billing Specialist, you will manage client account setup, billing arrangements, and portfolio account management while building strong collaborative relationships with attorneys and clients throughout the billing cycle. Key Responsibilities for the Billing Specialist

Client and Attorney Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with attorneys, staff, and clients.

  • Verify rates, review outside counsel guidelines, monitor fee caps, discounts, and budgets.

  • Communicate effectively with the firm’s Billing & Intake Committee regarding write-offs or adjustments.

Billing and Account Management

  • Manage the prebill-to-final-bill process, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

  • Submit invoices and eBills according to client and attorney specifications.

  • Collaborate with eBilling Coordinators and Accounting Systems Administrators for account setups and troubleshooting.

  • Monitor unapplied cash and assist Accounts Receivable with proper payment application.

Reporting and Process Improvement

  • Respond to inquiries regarding accruals, audits, and payment reports.

  • Prepare ad hoc reports and maintain pre-bill status reports for assigned portfolios.

  • Establish back-up support processes and cross-train team members to ensure smooth operations.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Prior law firm or professional services experience preferred.

  • Experience with Financial Management Systems and advanced Excel reporting.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • High level of discretion, reliability, and motivation.

  • Ability to multi-task, anticipate needs, and provide exceptional client service.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Anticipated base salary: $48,576 – $88,000, depending on experience, location, and qualifications.
