We are a thriving plant hire and transport company supporting the UK construction industry with vital machinery, equipment, and haulage services. Due to continued growth, we’re looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Administrator to join our friendly, fast-paced team in March, Cambridgeshire.
This is a dynamic and hands-on role, ideal for someone with a finance and administration background—particularly within construction, plant hire, or logistics.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Bookkeeping

Manage daily accounts payable and receivable transactions

Maintain accurate records using Sage 50

Support monthly payroll reporting and time recording

Verify subcontractors with HMRC and manage CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) records
-
Submit monthly CIS returns and issue deduction statements
-
Liaise with HMRC for CIS-related matters
Plant Hire Administration
-
Process plant hire requests and manage equipment logs
-
Coordinate with site teams and suppliers for deliveries and collections
-
Track hire durations and ensure timely off-hire of equipment
Transport & Logistics Support

Organise transport for equipment across multiple construction sites

Communicate with drivers, customers, and site managers
-
Maintain compliance records including MOTs, tacho checks, services, and insurance
Office & Operations Administration

Answer phone and email queries, supporting internal teams and clients
-
Manage purchase orders, hire contracts, and documentation
-
Maintain both digital and paper-based filing systems
-
Ensure internal databases (plant, vehicles, and assets) are kept up to date
-
Resolve issues related to invoicing, delivery errors, and customer concerns
Compliance & Health & Safety

Monitor legal and regulatory compliance for transport and plant hire

Support audits, inspections, and staff training records (e.g. licences, eye tests)

Keep driver and asset compliance records current and complete
What We’re Looking For
Essential:

Experience in bookkeeping and office administration
-
Proficient in Sage 50 and Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook)

Strong organisational and multitasking skills

Clear communicator with the ability to work independently

Able to manage time-sensitive tasks and deadlines
Desirable:

Background in construction, transport, or plant hire admin

Understanding of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)

Familiarity with transport compliance (Driver Hours, Operator’s Licence)
