Job Summary
The Bookkeeper is responsible for overseeing Horizon High School’s financial operations, including managing purchasing card transactions, reconciling accounts, tracking cash, preparing bank deposits, processing payables, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with district policies. This role provides essential support to staff, students, parents, vendors, and district personnel while maintaining accurate financial records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage school financial operations: p-cards, ordering, accounts receivable/payable, cash boxes, deposits, journal entries, and vendor contracts.

Monitor and reconcile the school budget, prepare reports, attend budget meetings, and adjust accounts as needed.

Provide financial customer service to students, staff, parents, and vendors.

Prepare invoices, refunds, and student account billings.

Maintain records of financial and fundraising transactions.

May assist with payroll data entry, time/attendance tracking, and personnel changes.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in accounting preferred.

Experience:
-
4+ years of clerical experience.

2+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience.

Student information system experience preferred.

Other: Business/accounting coursework preferred.
-
License/Certification: Criminal background check required.
Budget & Resource Responsibility

Manage, reconcile, and monitor the school’s budget and accounts (general, athletic, pupil, mill levy, and grant funds).

Prepare deposits, reconcile cash, and oversee journal entries.

May train and supervise CTE students.

Salary Information

All classified employees are paid hourly.

Newly hired classified employees start at Step 1 of the salary schedule.

Placement up to Step 8 possible depending on experience.
