We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and skilled pharmacist to join our Band 7 rotational training programme in Cancer Services at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
Based in our state-of-the-art Dyson Cancer Centre, which opened in April 2024, this role provides in-depth exposure to all areas of adult oncology and haematology pharmacy. You’ll be part of a friendly, well-integrated pharmacy team working alongside consultants, nurses, technicians, and clinical trial staff to deliver safe, innovative, and compassionate cancer care.
What You’ll Gain on This Rotation
As a rotational cancer services pharmacist, you will:

Work directly with oncology and haematology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Be trained in clinical screening, aseptic preparation, patient counselling, and the management of complex therapies.

Support and co-manage patients on systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and those with cancer-associated thromboses.

Develop expertise in clinical trials, research, and protocol-driven prescribing.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Pharmacy Support
-
Screen oncology and haematology prescriptions in line with national protocols and NICE guidance.

Monitor bloods, adjust dosing, and confirm treatment readiness.

Communicate proactively with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) regarding treatment status and any concerns.
Aseptic Services Unit

Act as an Authorised Pharmacist, supervising aseptic preparation of chemotherapy and related products.
Clinical Trials & Research

Participate in the screening and setup of clinical trials.

Provide pharmacy input for research and development within cancer services.
Patient & Team Communication

Counsel patients on cancer therapies and potential side effects.

Respond to medicines-related queries from patients, carers, and clinical teams.
Training & Development
You will follow a competency-based training programme led by our experienced cancer and aseptic services pharmacists. The role is designed to help you:

Gain a comprehensive understanding of systemic therapies for cancer.

Develop prescribing capabilities and clinical leadership skills.

Prepare for advanced practice roles in oncology and haematology.
