About the Cardiac ICU (CICU)

The 15-bed CICU specializes in managing critically ill cardiac patients, including those experiencing cardiogenic shock, myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest. The nursing team is skilled in managing advanced cardiac devices such as Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Impella, and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), along with critical care equipment including Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial and central lines, ventilators, dialysis, and targeted temperature management.

Our multidisciplinary team includes cardiology attendings, fellows, residents, RNs, pharmacists, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, respiratory therapists, case managers, and social workers. Nurse-to-patient ratios typically range from 1:2 to 1:1, based on patient acuity.

Role Purpose

Deliver direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation in line with nursing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster patient- and family-centered care in a supportive environment

  • Educate patients and families on illness management, post-treatment care, and medication use

  • Engage in patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance activities

  • Participate in professional development opportunities

  • Develop, implement, and document individualized care plans collaboratively with the healthcare team and patient/family

  • Use critical nursing judgment to assess and meet patients’ physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs

  • Respect patient values, cultural needs, and preferences in care delivery

  • This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)

  • No prior experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
