We are seeking a Design Engineer to support Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, and other functions by designing passive optical networks and generating associated bills of material (BOMs) for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and related applications. This role offers the opportunity to shape advanced optical communication networks and directly impact customer success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design optimized passive optical network (PON) solutions for customers using Corning products

  • Provide technical design support while strengthening customer relationships

  • Partner with Sales on customer visits, presentations, training, and issue resolution

  • Apply problem-solving skills through multiple design iterations to meet customer needs

  • Develop solutions with both core and newly released/modified products

  • Balance customer requirements with corporate financial and strategic goals

  • Collaborate with commercial teams throughout the design process

  • Work with peers on shared and individual responsibilities within the Design Engineering group

  • Take on special projects requiring travel or customer site embedding

Required Education & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Strong analytical problem-solving ability

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines

  • Self-motivated and effective under minimal supervision

  • Strong communication skills (100% English proficiency, written and verbal)

Desired Experience

  • 2+ years in the Telecommunications industry

  • Knowledge of optical fiber theory and Passive Optical Network (FTTx, LAN, Data Center) products

  • CAD/GIS experience

  • Product development or manufacturing background

  • Field experience with fiber optic products (cable handling, splicing, connectorization, testing)

  • Commercial organization experience (Sales, Marketing, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $83,839 – $115,279 (varies by location, skills, and experience)
