Job Description

The Dining Services Department at Mount Holyoke College is seeking a part-time Cashier to provide excellent customer service while accurately processing payments through cash, One Cards, and debit/credit cards. The Cashier will be responsible for managing the checkout process efficiently, handling transactions in a timely manner, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Additional responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing dining areas to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all guests.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Operate the computerized point-of-sale (POS) system.

  • Monitor student meal plan transactions to ensure appropriate balances.

  • Assist in stocking and cleaning throughout the dining commons.

  • Work independently or as part of a team, including supervising and training student workers.

  • Maintain clean, debris-free, and sanitized work areas at all times.

  • Oversee distribution and return of takeout containers and travel mugs.

  • Provide direction to student staff while maintaining professionalism.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience in cash handling and proficiency in math.

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with fluency in English.

  • Positive and professional attitude when interacting with students and the public.

  • Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Compensation

  • Minimum starting hourly rate: $19.12

  • Pay range: $19.12 – $21.02/hour (Hourly Grade 4H)

  • Final rate commensurate with experience
