Job Summary
The Cashier/Receptionist is an essential member of the healthcare team, working under the direction of department leadership to provide professional check-in, accurate revenue collection, and courteous service to patients and visitors. This role requires strong computer skills, customer service expertise, and the ability to safeguard revenue while ensuring a smooth patient experience. The position also includes oversight of at least two Emergency Department Cashiers/Receptionists.
Essential Functions

Customer Service & Patient Support

Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.

Provide facility directions, answer questions, and escalate issues when needed.

Uphold Kaiser Permanente’s mission, values, and patient-centered care standards.

Registration & Systems
-
Perform patient check-in at various registration points.

Ensure accurate data entry of demographics, insurance, and billing information.

Follow EMTALA guidelines and departmental registration procedures.

Cash Handling & Revenue Collection

Collect patient cost shares and payments following cash handling policies.

Balance and reconcile cash drawers, prepare deposits, and resolve discrepancies.

Safeguard revenue and maintain compliance with financial protocols.

Team Support & Additional Duties

Direct and verify the work of Emergency Department Cashiers/Receptionists.

Communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff.

Assist with documentation, patient forms, scheduling, and financial counseling referrals.

Maintain professional demeanor in all interactions with patients, staff, and visitors.

Basic Qualifications
-
Experience:
-
1+ year in customer service/public contact (within last 3 years).
-
1+ year in cash handling, balancing, or reconciliation (within last 3 years).

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Skills/Testing:
-
Typing 35 WPM & 10-key proficiency.

Basic PC skills and ability to pass assessment.

Basic math (addition/subtraction) test.

Strong verbal/written communication.

Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced setting.

Other Requirements: Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications
