Job Title: Cataloging/Metadata Librarian (Contractor Role)

Responsibilities
- Perform original and copy cataloging for monographs and continuing resources using OCLC Connexion and Integrated Library System (ILS), Aleph 500, in compliance with RDA, AACR2, MARC 21, and guidelines.
- Edit and update existing bibliographic records in ILS.
- Assign Library of Congress Subject Headings, authorized name authorities, and series authorities to records.
- Conduct research to determine the necessity for new NACO (Name Authority Cooperative Program) records or series authorities.
- Create and maintain item, holding, and serial pattern/holding records in GPO’s ILS, following established standards.
- Utilize advanced search techniques to analyze and interpret handwritten or incomplete catalog card data.
- Compile and report project metrics for internal and external progress reporting.
- Participate in progress briefings with the COR, technical advisors, and management as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in library technical services operations, specifically in cataloging and metadata.
- Proficiency in MARC 21 standards and classification schemas such as Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress, and SuDocs.
- Demonstrated experience with cataloging serials, maps, and integrated library systems (ILS).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in OCLC Connexion.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Resource Description and Access (RDA) standards for diverse material formats, including electronic, print, and microform.

Other Requirements

- Respond to queries via phone, email, or MS Teams within a 24-hour timeframe.
- Substitute personnel must be available within 48 hours in case of absence or unforeseen circumstances and be ready to perform duties with minimal training.
