As a Centralized Coder 1, you will ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM and CPT coding standards, optimize reimbursements, and provide technical guidance to clinical staff. This remote role allows flexible shifts between 7 AM and 7 PM in your time zone, with occasional weekend or holiday work during month-end procedures. Key Responsibilities for a Centralized Coder 1
Accurate Medical Coding & Documentation

Review and code medical records and charge tickets for outpatient, hospital, and surgical visits.

Assign correct ICD-10-CM and CPT codes while ensuring documentation supports procedures and diagnoses.

Maintain coding accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations.

Review charts to prevent claim denials and optimize reimbursement.
Technical Guidance & Compliance

Provide coding guidance and training to physicians and clinical staff.

Identify and resolve documentation issues, ambiguous records, or coding discrepancies.

Stay updated on coding regulations, guidelines, and best practices through newsletters, bulletins, and research.

Maintain at least 95% coding accuracy while meeting productivity expectations.
Collaboration & Continuous Learning

Assist operational teams with reporting coding trends and problem areas using charts and analytics.

Educate staff on correct code selection, documentation, and regulatory requirements.

Uphold ethical coding standards, internal policies, and patient confidentiality guidelines.

Continuously expand knowledge of coding systems, laws, and regulations affecting healthcare reimbursement.
Qualifications & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

3-5 years of medical coding experience in a healthcare facility.

AHIMA or AAPC coding certification required; CPC, CEMC, CPMA, CRC, CPB, Specialty certification, CCS-P, or RHIT preferred.

Experience in Cardiology or Radiation Oncology is a plus.
