Are you an experienced medical coder seeking a dynamic role in ambulatory surgery centers? Atlas Healthcare Partners is hiring a Medical Records Coder to accurately code patient records, abstract clinical information, and ensure compliance with national coding guidelines. In this role, you will collaborate with healthcare providers, review surgical and hospital records, and contribute to quality assurance processes. Key Responsibilities for a Medical Records Coder

Accurate Coding & Clinical Abstraction

  • Analyze medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for diagnostic and procedural information.

  • Abstract clinical diagnoses, procedure codes, and other pertinent information from medical records into electronic systems.

  • Clarify missing or incomplete information with providers to ensure accurate coding.

  • Assign MS-DRGs, APCs, POAs, and reconcile charges for accurate reimbursement.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations for state Medicaid plans, CMS, OIG, and HCFA.

  • Maintain quality assurance standards for all assigned records and coding areas.

  • Identify and refer inconsistent patient treatment information for additional review or clarification.

  • Compile daily and monthly reports for research, analysis, and operational purposes.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Active RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CCS-P certification preferred.

  • 1-2 years of coding experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center setting.

  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and competencies.

  • Ability to meet pre-established accuracy standards on coding tests.

  • Proficiency in office software, coding software, and electronic medical record systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional related education or clinical coding experience is a plus.

  • Experience in surgery coding or ASC environments highly preferred.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Typical office environment with extensive sitting, occasional standing, and walking.

  • May require lifting up to 20 pounds.

  • Frequent use of computers, phones, and general office equipment.

  • Effective communication through reading, writing, and speaking.
