Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, tasked with delivering exceptional care to patients by assisting them with daily living activities, monitoring their vital signs, and ensuring a safe and hygienic environment. Working under the guidance and supervision of registered nurses (RNs) or other healthcare professionals, the CNA plays a crucial role in supporting the health, comfort, and overall well-being of patients in various healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):

    • Provide direct support to patients with essential daily activities, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and assisting with mobility.

    • Help patients maintain dignity and comfort during these activities, offering compassionate and respectful care.

  2. Monitor Vital Signs:

    • Accurately measure and record patients’ vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates.

    • Regularly monitor for any changes in vital signs that could indicate a potential health concern and promptly report any findings to the nursing staff.

  3. Personal Hygiene and Toileting Assistance:

    • Assist patients with toileting needs, including incontinence care and the safe use of restroom facilities.

    • Ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness of patients, ensuring their comfort and preventing health issues related to improper care.

  4. Patient Repositioning and Transfers:

    • Safely turn, reposition, and transfer patients to prevent pressure ulcers, promote comfort, and ensure proper body alignment.

    • Use appropriate lifting techniques and equipment to safely move patients, minimizing the risk of injury to both the patient and yourself.

  5. Observation and Reporting:

    • Observe and monitor patients for any changes in condition, behavior, or symptoms.

    • Document and report changes, abnormalities, or concerns to the nursing staff in a timely and accurate manner to ensure appropriate follow-up care.

  6. Feeding and Nutrition Monitoring:

    • Assist patients with meals, ensuring they are fed according to their dietary restrictions, preferences, and needs.

    • Monitor food and fluid intake, accurately documenting amounts consumed and alerting nursing staff to any concerns, such as changes in appetite or difficulty swallowing.

  7. Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment:

    • Ensure that patients’ rooms are tidy, organized, and equipped with necessary supplies.

    • Follow all infection control procedures to minimize the risk of infection, including proper hand hygiene and cleaning of patient areas.

  8. Provide Emotional and Social Support:

    • Offer companionship to patients, helping alleviate feelings of loneliness or anxiety.

    • Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families, fostering a caring and compassionate environment.

  9. Follow Safety and Infection Control Protocols:

    • Adhere to established safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both patients and staff.

    • Follow infection control measures to prevent the spread of infections and maintain a safe healthcare environment.

  10. Accurate Documentation:

    • Maintain detailed and accurate records of the care provided, including vital signs, patient observations, and any changes in the patient’s condition.

    • Ensure all documentation complies with healthcare facility policies and regulatory requirement.
