Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Delivers care under the delegation and supervision of a registered nurse, tailored to the condition, development, and age of each client.
- Participates in and carries out the interdisciplinary plan of care as assigned.
- Organizes and adjusts care plans to respect and accommodate each patient’s individual needs, preferences, and daily routines.
- Demonstrates an understanding of care priorities and reinforces them in practice.
- Promotes self-care and independence when appropriate to the patient’s condition.
- Identifies both normal and abnormal mental functioning, applying appropriate skills to meet the needs of cognitively impaired patients.
- Maintains a safe and supportive environment by preventing hazards, using restraints appropriately, and consistently adhering to infection control protocols.
- Recognizes abnormal signs and symptoms related to common health conditions and communicates findings promptly and accurately.
- Supports and maintains patients’ nutritional and hydration needs, including basic nutrition and oral fluid intake.
- Responds effectively to emergencies, demonstrating a clear understanding of emergency protocols.
- Completes all documentation thoroughly and in compliance with established guidelines.
Competency
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of applicable laws and regulations, practicing within the defined scope of certified nursing assistant responsibilities.
- Maintains clinical competency by:
- Keeping certification current.
- Performing duties within the authorized scope of practice.
- Consistently demonstrating proficiency in technical skills.
- Performing procedures only after receiving the necessary education and documented clinical training.

Licensure Requirements
- Active Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA 2 – Acute Care) certification required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required.
