Position Overview: Pharmacist – Pediatrics Pharmacy (WVUH)

As a pharmacist at WVU Medicine, you’ll play a key role in providing high-quality pharmaceutical care at designated locations. This includes direct patient care, operational responsibilities, and educational involvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Licensure:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited program.

  • Must have a current West Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible to obtain one within 90 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited school.

Experience:

  • Completion of a PGY-2 residency in a related clinical field, or

  • Completion of a PGY-1 residency, or

  • Three years of relevant pharmacy experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and verify the accuracy of medication orders.

  • Dispense medications per provider orders and adhere to drug distribution protocols.

  • Oversee drug use in assigned areas and offer recommendations for improvement.

  • Identify and report medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and safety concerns.

  • Participate in patient care related to acute/chronic diseases and medical emergencies.

  • Promote and evaluate medication safety practices in line with ISMP standards.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in the clinical information system.

  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and contribute to performance evaluations.

  • Educate pharmacy students, residents, and new staff members.

  • Engage in educational and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Submit assignments and continuing education documentation promptly.

  • Complete annual clinical competency evaluations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk for long durations.

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and push up to 50 lbs.

  • Manual dexterity for handling and preparing medications.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong time management and teamwork abilities.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
