What You’ll Do as a Clinical Coding Auditor & Trainer

 

As a Clinical Coding Auditor & Trainer, you’ll play a vital role in evaluating, training, and improving coding practices:

  • Conduct audits of staff work and provide detailed reports with improvement recommendations.
  • Manage and execute auditing projects that require independence and innovation.
  • Assist in revising policies, procedures, and workflow processes for continuous improvement.
  • Identify training needs and develop effective training programs for clinical and coding teams.
  • Design and utilize appropriate training materials and aids.
  • Maintain detailed records of training activities, audits, and staff progress.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards.

Skills and Qualifications for Clinical Coding Auditor & Trainer

 

The ideal Clinical Coding Auditor & Trainer candidate will bring strong auditing, coding, and clinical expertise, along with excellent communication and analytical skills.

 

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of DRG and/or Medical Record Audit experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a clinical or acute care hospital setting.
  • RN, PA, MD, APRN, DO, or MBBS license (required).
  • Inpatient coding experience (highly preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Certifications:

  • CPC or CIC (AAPC), CCS (AHIMA), RHIA, or RHIT credentials preferred.

 

Travel Requirement:

  • Primarily remote role with minimal travel — must be willing to travel to New York twice per year.
