About the Role

Join CHOC’s state-of-the-art Pharmacy Department, featuring advanced robotic automation designed to improve efficiency in production and medication dispensing. We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist to provide expert pharmaceutical care for neonates, children, and adolescents within our pediatric acute care setting.

In this role, you will oversee the safe and effective use of medications, provide clinical drug information and guidance to healthcare teams, and play a key part in coordinating pharmacy workflow. You’ll also supervise pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with safety standards and quality care protocols.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical assessments and manage drug therapy for pediatric patients.

  • Consult with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal, cost-effective treatment.

  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness, accuracy, and potential interactions.

  • Lead the coordination of pharmacy operations and oversee technician activities.

  • Monitor patient response to therapy and document interventions in accordance with policies.

  • Support the implementation of pharmacy automation technologies and best practices.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 1 year of clinical pharmacy experience in an acute care hospital.

  • Preferred: Pediatric acute care experience.

Training:

  • Preferred: Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency (PGY1 and/or PGY2) in hospital, clinical, or pediatric pharmacy.

Licensure & Certifications:

  • Required:

    • Current Pharmacist license from the California State Board of Pharmacy

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – within 90 days of hire

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – within 1 year of hire


Skills & Competencies

Required:

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

  • Solid understanding of state and federal pharmacy regulations

  • Ability to evaluate drug appropriateness, monitor for adverse effects, and supervise pharmacy staff

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of current trends in pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, and toxicology specific to pediatric populations


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; push/pull up to 200 lbs (e.g., patient transport on stretchers)

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of fine motor skills

  • Exposure to airborne diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, radiation, and extreme noise or temperature conditions
