Job Summary:
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Pain Management provides expert pharmaceutical care focused on pain management, regulatory compliance, and clinical support. This role involves direct patient care, medication prescribing and monitoring, collaboration with the healthcare team, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust pain-related medications.

  • Conduct thorough medication and medical history reviews.

  • Order, review, and act on lab and toxicology results.

  • Perform pain and symptom assessments using clinical rating tools.

  • Educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and contribute to formulary reviews and quality assurance initiatives.

  • Serve under the Pharmacist Pain Management Consult Service with prescribing authority.

Qualifications:

  • Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited institution.

  • Completion of PGY1 and PGY2 (Pain and Palliative Care) pharmacy residencies.

  • At least 2 years’ hospital experience in pain management or equivalent training.

  • Experience in medication use evaluation (MUE) and quality assurance for P&T Committee.

Licensing & Certification:

  • Valid California pharmacist license with a clean record.

  • NPI and DEA registration for prescribing.

  • Must complete credentialing and privileging upon hire.

Patient Population:
Serves all age groups—from neonates to geriatric patients.

Work Conditions:
Primarily sedentary with occasional standing or lifting (up to 10 lbs). Reasonable accommodations available.
