Position Overview: Single Ventricle Psychologist
Seattle Children’s is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Single Ventricle Psychologist to lead and deliver specialized psychological care for our population of patients with single ventricle heart defects and their families. This role ensures that patients and families receive comprehensive developmental, academic, emotional, and social support across the continuum of care—from prenatal counseling through the transition to adulthood.
Beginning with prenatal consultations, the psychologist will provide critical mental health support as families prepare to navigate a complex and chronic medical condition. During the medically intensive first year of life, and beyond, the psychologist will evaluate and support families through developmental milestones and potential challenges. As children grow, this role includes screening for behavioral and psychological conditions prevalent in this population, providing ongoing therapy for a subset of patients, and preparing adolescents for a successful transition to adult care through self-advocacy and mental health navigation.
The psychologist will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary Single Ventricle team—including cardiologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, palliative care professionals, social workers, and child life specialists. In addition to direct clinical care, this role will contribute to program development, family and community education, quality improvement initiatives, and research efforts.
