Key Responsibilities of Cloud Database Administrator

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize on-premises SQL Server environments, including backups, restores, replication, and high availability configurations.

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure SQL Databases, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and other Azure services.

  • Architect scalable and secure cloud databases optimized for performance and business requirements.

  • Build and maintain data warehouses to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence.

  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using tools such as Terraform, Fabric Data Pipelines, or SSIS.

  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance tuning strategies.

  • Ensure database security, governance, and compliance according to enterprise policies.

  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and developers to maintain data integrity and seamless workflow.

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automation for database deployment and management.

  • Use monitoring tools like Datadog to gain performance insights and proactively remediate issues.


Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration (on-premises).

  • 5+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, especially Azure SQL, Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics.

  • Strong experience in database schema design, data modeling, normalization/denormalization for cloud databases.

  • Solid understanding of ETL processes, data warehousing concepts, and implementation.

  • Proficiency with T-SQL, PowerShell, Terraform, and scripting for automation.

  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.

  • Familiarity with cloud security, governance, and compliance frameworks.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Experience with APIs, including building simple APIs for data aggregation.

  • Microsoft certifications (Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect) preferred.

  • DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code experience preferred.

  • Exposure to NoSQL databases, Big Data tools, or Python is a plus.
