Position Summary
ServiceMaster Brands is seeking a proactive Cloud Database Administrator with expertise in on-premises SQL Server and Azure cloud services. This role is critical in driving cloud migration initiatives, optimizing database performance, and supporting the full data lifecycle, including data warehousing and ETL pipelines. The ideal candidate has deep technical skills, hands-on cloud experience, and a passion for building scalable, secure database solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain on-prem SQL Server environments, including backups, restores, replication, and high availability.

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure SQL databases, Cosmos DB, and other Azure data services (Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics).

  • Lead database architecture and design for scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud environments.

  • Build and maintain data warehouses to support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence.

  • Develop and manage ETL pipelines using tools such as Terraform, Fabric Data Pipelines, or SSIS.

  • Participate in agile teams, contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, and review sessions.

  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and optimize queries and indexing strategies.

  • Implement database security policies, governance, and compliance best practices.

  • Support cloud migration strategies and hybrid data infrastructures.

  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and architects to ensure seamless data flow and integrity.

  • Utilize CI/CD pipelines, version control, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for automated deployments and consistency.

  • Build monitoring solutions using tools like Datadog for proactive performance management.


Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of on-premises Microsoft SQL Server administration.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL Database, Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics.

  • Proven experience in database schema design, data modeling, and normalization/denormalization techniques.

  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data warehousing concepts, and pipeline development.

  • Proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, and Terraform for automation and orchestration.

  • Familiarity with cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Optional but preferred: Azure Database Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect certifications, DevOps/CI-CD experience, exposure to NoSQL, Big Data tools, or Python scripting.
