Coding Specialist Job Responsibilities
As a Coding Specialist, you’ll review provider claims with precision to guarantee compliance with all applicable regulations. Your role involves ensuring accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT coding for inpatient and outpatient professional billing. You will collaborate with the team to identify educational opportunities for providers, helping to improve documentation and billing accuracy within your area of expertise.
Qualifications and Experience for Coding Specialist
To succeed as a Coding Specialist, you must possess one of the following certifications upon hire:

National Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)

National Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
-
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or CCS-Physician (CCS-P) by AHIMA

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Administrator (RHIA) by AHIMA
Experience Required:

Minimum 2 years of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience for clinic and hospital-based inpatient/outpatient billing.
Preferred Education:

Associate’s Degree or completion of a certified coding program with 2–3 years of related experience. Applicants with equivalent education and experience will be considered.
