Medical Coder Job Responsibilities
In this Medical Coder role, you’ll perform accurate data abstraction, evaluate provider-assigned codes, and maintain compliance with ICD-10-CM and CPT standards.
Core Duties
- Assign and validate CPT, HCPC, and ICD-10-CM codes for obstetric procedures.
- Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and payer documentation rules.
- Manage billing, charge entry, collections, and insurance follow-ups.
- Identify and resolve coding and charge entry errors efficiently.
- Analyze error trends and prepare detailed Excel and Word reports.
- Collaborate with clinicians and RCM teams to maintain billing accuracy.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA and data confidentiality standards.
Medical Coder Job Qualifications

Required Skills & Education
- Certified AAPC Coder credential required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and coding tools (eBridge, Putty, Lyra).
- Experience in revenue cycle management (RCM) processes.
- Strong communication, analytical, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to interpret clinical data, payer rules, and coding regulations.
- Commitment to maintaining professional ethics and organizational values.
