Job Summary
We are seeking a Per Diem Outpatient Coder to accurately code diagnoses and procedures documented in the medical record for outpatient encounters. This role is responsible for timely data entry into the HealthQuest system and for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and Cooper University Health Care coding regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures for each outpatient encounter

Enter coding data into the HealthQuest system in a timely and accurate manner

Ensure coding practices adhere to compliance regulations, including government and institutional guidelines

Maintain a high level of accuracy in coding across multiple outpatient services such as:

Observation
-
Same Day Surgery
-
Emergency Department
-
Endoscopy
-
Multi-specialty Oncology
-

Utilize and remain current with NCCI, OCE, and LCD coding guidelines
-
Demonstrate proficiency across multiple outpatient coding scenarios and specialties
Required Experience
-
0–2 years of outpatient coding experience required
-
3–5 years of outpatient coding experience preferred
Education Requirements
-
High School Diploma or GED required
-
Vocational/Technical School in Health Information Management, Coding, or Medical Billing preferred
Licensure/Certification
One or more of the following certifications required:

AHIMA Credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA
-
AAPC Credentials: CPC, COC, CIC, CCC, CIRCC, CCVTC
-
Specialty or core coding credentials from either AAPC or AHIMA accepted
Special Requirements

Demonstrated proficiency in coding a variety of outpatient services

Mandatory knowledge of NCCI, OCE, and LCD coding guidelines
-
High attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance standards

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
