Position Overview
The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for data abstraction, evaluation, and auditing of provider-assigned CPT, HCPC codes, and ICD-10 CM for obstetrics. The role requires accuracy, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work in a high-volume environment while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities

Assign and sequence diagnoses and procedures per ICD-10 CM guidelines, CPT Assistant, and E/M Documentation Rules

Handle billing, collections, insurance follow-up, and charge entry

Analyze and resolve coding errors and report trends

Work with software such as eBridge, Putty, and Lyra

Prepare reports using Microsoft Excel and Word

Interpret regulatory and payer rules related to coding

Function independently while multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities

Maintain HIPAA compliance throughout the revenue cycle process

Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills

Certified AAPC Coder
-
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent education/experience)

Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information

Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and obstetric coding
Physical Demands

Ability to sit for long periods (5.5+ hours/day), as per ADA guidelines
