Position Overview

The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for data abstraction, evaluation, and auditing of provider-assigned CPT, HCPC codes, and ICD-10 CM for obstetrics. The role requires accuracy, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work in a high-volume environment while maintaining quality and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assign and sequence diagnoses and procedures per ICD-10 CM guidelines, CPT Assistant, and E/M Documentation Rules

  • Handle billing, collections, insurance follow-up, and charge entry

  • Analyze and resolve coding errors and report trends

  • Work with software such as eBridge, Putty, and Lyra

  • Prepare reports using Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Interpret regulatory and payer rules related to coding

  • Function independently while multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance throughout the revenue cycle process

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

  • Certified AAPC Coder

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent education/experience)

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and obstetric coding

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for long periods (5.5+ hours/day), as per ADA guidelines
