Job Description

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Community / Maternity Support Worker to join our community midwifery team at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. This role, based at Wycombe Hospital, will involve some cross-site working. As a Community / Maternity Support Worker, you will support midwives in delivering care to women at all stages of pregnancy and post-birth, including lone working and home visits. You will also work closely with the wider multi-agency team in various care settings, including children’s centres.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with feeding, supporting antenatal classes, and offering tours of the unit. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on the wellbeing of mothers and babies in our local community.

Key Responsibilities of the Community / Maternity Support Worker

  • Provide essential support to community midwives, assisting with feeding and antenatal education.

  • Work in collaboration with the wider healthcare team, supporting mothers during pregnancy and post-birth.

  • Perform home visits and provide care in children’s centres.

  • Maintain excellent communication with staff, patients, and their families.

Role Expectations for the Community / Maternity Support Worker

As a Community / Maternity Support Worker, you will be responsible for working with midwives to ensure the care of women and babies in the community is delivered with compassion, respect, and professionalism. You will need to be vigilant in monitoring the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of both mothers and babies and report any concerns promptly. You will work independently but under the guidance of qualified midwives, ensuring that you perform tasks once trained and competent.
