We are inviting applications for a whole-time Consultant in Cardiology to join a dynamic and supportive team at the Royal United Hospital (RUH), Bath. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious clinician with specialist expertise in advanced echocardiography, including TOE and DSE, to enhance and expand our high-quality cardiology services.

Modern Cardiology Centre

Our Cardiology Centre includes:

  • 8-bed Coronary Care Unit

  • 36-bed Cardiac Ward

  • Nurse-led Cardiology Day-Case Unit (including TOE procedures)

  • 3 Consulting Rooms

  • 5 Diagnostic and Echocardiography Suites

  • ECG and Pacing Departments

  • 2 Cardiac Catheterisation Labs with 4-bed recovery and a radial lounge

About the Role

You will contribute to both general cardiology services and advanced cardiac imaging, with opportunities to develop your own subspecialist interest. Additional expertise in Adult Congenital Heart Disease is desirable but not essential.

Your duties will include:

  • Inpatient and outpatient cardiology care

  • Diagnostic and interventional echocardiography (TOE, DSE)

  • Teaching, supervision, and research

  • Participation in audit, service development, and clinical governance

  • Attendance at departmental meetings and CPD events

  • Covering colleagues during annual/study leave (prospective cover)

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should:

  • Be on, or eligible for, the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiology

  • Hold or be within 6 months of completing a CCT (or equivalent)

  • Have demonstrable expertise in advanced echocardiography (TOE/DSE)

  • Show commitment to continuous learning, teaching, and service improvement

  • Bring enthusiasm for working in a team that values compassion, innovation, and excellence
