Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed doctor to join our Respiratory Medicine Department for a three-month fixed-term post. This role involves a mix of inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and emergency on-call duties, based at King’s Mill Hospital with additional outpatient sessions at Newark Hospital.

You will be supporting a highly skilled team to provide the highest quality respiratory care across Mid-Nottinghamshire.

Department Overview

Our Respiratory Department is active across multiple sites and services:

  • Three inpatient respiratory wards at King’s Mill Hospital

  • 8-bed Respiratory Support Unit for acute and chronic non-invasive ventilation (NIV)

  • Outpatient clinics at King’s Mill, Newark, Ashfield, and Mansfield Community Hospitals

  • Subspecialty clinics in:

    • Lung Cancer

    • Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)

    • Sleep & Ventilation

    • COPD

    • Tuberculosis (TB)

    • Bronchiectasis

We handle approximately 2,600 new outpatient cases and 6,400 follow-ups annually.

Advanced Respiratory Services

  • Bronchoscopy at King’s Mill and Newark

  • Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Thoracoscopy, and Indwelling Pleural Catheters

  • Sleep study services (inpatient and outpatient) – 4,000+ patients under review

  • Community Oxygen Assessment Programme

  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation across three sites

Multidisciplinary Team & Support

You’ll be working with a well-established, experienced team that includes:

  • 10 Respiratory Physiologists

  • Respiratory and Lung Cancer Specialist Nurses

  • Chest Radiologists (2 consultants)

  • Weekly MDT support from Nottingham’s tertiary oncology centre (Oncologists & Thoracic Surgeon)

  • Strong links with pulmonary rehabilitation and oxygen therapy programmes

Research & Innovation

Our department actively recruits for clinical studies in:

  • Lung Cancer

  • COPD

  • Interstitial Lung Disease
    Supported by a responsive Research & Innovation Department

Key Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

  • NHS experience in Respiratory or Acute/General Medicine preferred

  • Ability to manage both inpatient and outpatient respiratory caseloads

  • Commitment to high-quality patient care and teamwork
