NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (NHS GJUNH) is seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our renowned Eye Centre, Scotland’s largest cataract surgery provider. This role offers a flexible job plan with no regular on-call commitments, providing an excellent work-life balance.
About NHS GJUNH Eye Centre:
- Purpose-built facility opened in November 2020
- 20 pre-assessment clinics and 60 theatre sessions per week
- Over 11,000 cataract surgeries performed in 2022-23
- High-volume cataract surgery unit with an efficient patient pathway
- Supported by a multidisciplinary team including ophthalmologists, optometrists, and specialist ophthalmic nurses
- Training opportunities available with West of Scotland Training Programme rotations
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform high-volume cataract surgeries with a focus on quality and efficiency
- Contribute to service development, innovation, and patient care improvement initiatives
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors and trainees in ophthalmology
- Engage in teaching, training, and quality assurance programs
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of completion)
- FRCOphth or equivalent higher surgical qualification
