Job Description

NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (NHS GJUNH) is seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our renowned Eye Centre, Scotland’s largest cataract surgery provider. This role offers a flexible job plan with no regular on-call commitments, providing an excellent work-life balance.

About NHS GJUNH Eye Centre:

  • Purpose-built facility opened in November 2020
  • 20 pre-assessment clinics and 60 theatre sessions per week
  • Over 11,000 cataract surgeries performed in 2022-23
  • High-volume cataract surgery unit with an efficient patient pathway
  • Supported by a multidisciplinary team including ophthalmologists, optometrists, and specialist ophthalmic nurses
  • Training opportunities available with West of Scotland Training Programme rotations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-volume cataract surgeries with a focus on quality and efficiency
  • Contribute to service development, innovation, and patient care improvement initiatives
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and trainees in ophthalmology
  • Engage in teaching, training, and quality assurance programs
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of completion)
  • FRCOphth or equivalent higher surgical qualification
