Overview
We are seeking a committed and experienced Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership and high-quality psychiatric care within our multidisciplinary inpatient team. You will be medically responsible for the care of adolescents admitted to the unit, ensuring a compassionate, evidence-based approach to mental health care.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Leadership

Hold overall clinical and medical responsibility for patients under your care.

Conduct psychiatric assessments, provide diagnoses, and develop evidence-based treatment plans.

Provide ongoing review of patient progress and adapt interventions based on clinical need and risk.

Lead treatment planning under the Care Programme Approach (CPA) framework.

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, team leader, and external agencies.

Promote patient-centered care, involving families and carers where appropriate and with consent.
Mental Health Act and Legal Responsibilities

Act as Responsible Clinician for detained patients under the Mental Health Act.

Hold Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status.

Ensure safe practice in line with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and related legal and ethical frameworks.

Provide expert risk assessments and uphold best practice in governance and patient safety.
On-Call Duties

Participate in the Consultant on-call rota, including evening and weekend responsibilities as required by the Trust.
Teaching, Supervision, and Development

Provide clinical supervision, support, and appraisal to junior medical staff, including trainees and SAS doctors.

Contribute to medical education via teaching, academic lectures, seminars, and Trust CPD programmes.

Ensure compliance with the Working Time Directive and other relevant junior doctor regulations.

Participate in the Trust’s academic and professional development initiatives.
Governance, Planning, and Management

Engage in annual job planning and service review discussions.

Collaborate with operational managers to support high-quality, efficient service delivery.

Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and business planning.

Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation and ensure data is submitted appropriately.

Uphold Trust policies and participate in strategic decision-making when required.
