About the Opportunity

We have partnered with a well-established nonprofit organization seeking an Interim Controller to support its financial operations. This role is pivotal in managing accounting processes, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic financial guidance to the leadership team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this hybrid position requires 2–3 days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, budgeting, tax compliance, and revenue recognition.

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

  • Monitor cash flow, prepare forecasts, and manage investments.

  • Compile monthly/annual financial reports; review and analyze budgets and forecasts.

  • Maintain and update the chart of accounts.

  • Provide detailed budget variance reports and insights.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.

  • Manage grants accounting in accordance with revenue recognition standards.

  • Prepare schedules and reports for audits, including federal audits.

  • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency.

  • Perform additional controller duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Accounting focus preferred).

  • 4+ years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience required.

  • Strong knowledge of finance, GAAP, accounting, and budgeting principles.

  • Proven ability to recommend and implement process improvements.

  • Skilled collaborator with experience mentoring team members and partnering with executives.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with MIP Fund Accounting, Sage, or similar software preferred.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
