What a Customer Service Representative Does

As a Customer Service Representative, you are the voice of eBay, handling high volumes of inbound calls from buyers and sellers. You’ll resolve inquiries, provide guidance on eBay processes, and ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining professionalism and empathy throughout every interaction.


Key Responsibilities for a Customer Service Representative

  • Respond to inbound calls from buyers and sellers, offering timely and effective solutions

  • Ask detailed questions to identify root causes and clarify customer needs

  • Set realistic expectations and communicate next steps to customers

  • Deliver challenging messages with empathy and professionalism, building trust and loyalty

  • Proactively resolve issues using judgment and internal resources when immediate answers are unavailable

  • Maintain performance standards, including resolution time, customer satisfaction, and schedule adherence

  • Collaborate with team members to support a positive and inclusive work environment

  • Continuously enhance knowledge of eBay policies, procedures, and software tools


Required Qualifications for a Customer Service Representative

  • Minimum 2+ years of call center or customer service experience

  • Strong communication skills with high empathy and emotional intelligence

  • Digital literacy and proficiency in web-based and e-commerce software applications

  • Ability to manage complex situations and deliver tough messages effectively

  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment

  • Located in Texas with a secure workspace and wired internet (minimum 10 Mbps download / 4 Mbps upload)

  • Flexibility to work structured shifts, including mornings, evenings, and weekends
