Overview
Kickstart your career in cybersecurity with FWI as a Cyber Intern. In this internship, you’ll gain hands-on experience strengthening IT infrastructure, supporting compliance initiatives, and contributing to real-world projects including CMMC and VDI implementations. This program is designed for upperclassmen currently enrolled in Virginia state colleges or universities pursuing degrees in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related fields.

Responsibilities
CMMC Level 1 Readiness

Assist in aligning the Microsoft 365 tenant with CMMC Level 1 requirements.

Support documentation of security practices and procedures.

Review, implement, and validate security controls.

Help prepare and execute internal self-assessments.
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Implementation

Contribute to designing, testing, and rolling out a virtual desktop environment.

Research configurations and document best practices for secure remote access.
Security Audits & Vulnerability Analysis

Conduct audits of tenant security configurations.

Identify system vulnerabilities and gaps.

Draft recommendations for remediation, including patching and system hardening strategies.
General Cybersecurity Support

Collaborate with senior IT and cybersecurity staff to support monitoring, compliance reporting, and risk management initiatives.
Qualifications
Required:
-
U.S. citizen and actively enrolled in a Virginia state college or university.

Upperclassman majoring in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related fields (preference for Cybersecurity majors).

Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, or similar enterprise platforms.

Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and frameworks.

Strong research, documentation, and technical writing skills.

Analytical mindset with attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
