The Opportunity
We’re looking for a junior- to mid-level data scientist to join our collaborative team of analysts and data scientists. In this role, you’ll help develop methodologies using Ookla’s rich, multi-dimensional datasets to describe mobile and fixed internet performance in new and impactful ways. Your work will empower consumers, service providers, manufacturers, and regulators to make informed decisions about connectivity.
This is a unique opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in networking, statistics, and data programming who is curious, creative, and passionate about data advocacy.
What You’ll Do

Lead the development of new measurements, KPIs, and models for internet quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE).

Design and apply statistical testing methods for performance metrics.

Partner with data engineers and product managers to turn methodology into viable data products.

Create anomaly detection approaches to safeguard data quality and integrity.

Support sales, licensing, and industry analyst teams with insights and methodologies.

Protect Ookla’s credibility by ensuring consistency across public-facing outputs.

Build internal tools, documentation, and processes for reproducible reporting.

Stay current with advancements in data science and tooling.

Mentor and support fellow analysts and scientists.
What You’ll Bring

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Strong background in statistical inference, hypothesis testing, and modeling.

Experience applying statistical methods to real-world challenges.

Expertise in Python or R, with strong SQL skills.

Experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, and large datasets.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Track record of cross-team collaboration and project ownership.
-
Experience with internet, cellular, and broadband technologies.
-
Background check required.
