Healthcare Data Scientist Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Data Scientist, you’ll work at the intersection of data, technology, and healthcare innovation. You’ll be responsible for designing, building, and deploying data-driven solutions that support critical business and clinical decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define measurable use cases such as risk forecasting, readmission prediction, and fraud detection.

  • Explore, clean, and engineer data from claims, EMR, utilization, and care-management sources.

  • Develop and evaluate models using regression, classification, time series, and clustering techniques.

  • Work with data and MLOps teams to productionize models using Spark, Databricks, and cloud pipelines.

  • Design dashboards and visualizations in Power BI or Tableau to communicate insights effectively.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA/PHI data governance and reproducible research practices.

  • Experiment with LLMs through prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and AI-driven workflow automation.


Healthcare Data Scientist Qualifications

To succeed as a Healthcare Data Scientist, you’ll need strong analytical, programming, and communication skills, along with experience in healthcare or insurance data environments.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6–8 years of proven data science experience with measurable business impact.

  • Proficiency in Python or R, SQL, and Big Data tools such as Spark or Hive.

  • Experience with ML platforms like Azure ML, Databricks, or Google Vertex AI.

  • Familiarity with statistical and ML methods including regression, time series, and tree ensembles.

  • Knowledge of cloud deployment workflows and MLOps principles.

  • Exposure to LLM prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and AI automation.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to translate data insights into business outcomes.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
