Role Overview

The Database Administrator (DBA) ensures the stability, security, and performance of Baylor Genetics’ enterprise database systems. This role involves designing, implementing, optimizing, and maintaining databases that support genetic testing services. It requires technical expertise, attention to detail, a collaborative mindset, and a drive for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize high-availability, enterprise-scale database systems.

  • Lead database architecture reviews, providing recommendations for scalability, modernization, and cost efficiency.

  • Conduct capacity planning to meet future business growth needs.

  • Partner with security teams to ensure compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and other regulations.

  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and disaster recovery systems to maintain performance, availability, and security.

  • Mentor developers on database best practices, performance tuning, and secure coding standards.

  • Manage user access, permissions, and secure data distribution.

  • Perform regular testing to ensure data security, privacy, integrity, and recoverability.

  • Apply patches, upgrades, and optimize database performance for back-end and front-end accessibility.

  • Evaluate and recommend emerging database technologies to improve resilience and scalability.

  • Maintain thorough documentation for database systems, processes, and configurations.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 5 years DBA experience in enterprise-scale environments.

  • Strong knowledge of modern database best practices and multiple database technologies (SQL, MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).

  • Experience designing and presenting database architectures.

  • Ability to collaborate with development, infrastructure, and management teams.

  • Familiarity with public and private cloud environments.

  • Strong documentation, self-management, and continuous improvement skills.

  • Detail-oriented and committed to delivering value in fast-paced environments.
