About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to lead Curana Health’s migration from SQL Server to Databricks. This hands-on role will design, implement, and maintain databases while ensuring high data availability, security, and performance. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has deep technical expertise, and enjoys mentoring and developing team members.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform Modernization

• Lead the migration of the data warehouse environment to Azure Databricks.

• Architect, design, document, and support all database environments.

• Implement Delta Lake architecture, versioning, and time travel for data integrity.

Database Management & Optimization

• Tune and optimize queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes (SSIS, ADF, DBT).

• Monitor database and pipeline performance using tools such as Datadog, Azure Monitor, or Grafana.

• Manage security, indexing, and capacity planning for SQL Server and Databricks databases.

Support & Troubleshooting

• Provide on-call support for production, test, and development databases.

• Troubleshoot issues including blocking, deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, and performance problems.

• Support application development, including DDL/schema changes, code review, and deployments.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work with stakeholders to ensure optimal business support with minimal after-hours incidents.

• Develop and maintain documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.

• Mentor junior DBAs and data engineers on modern data solutions and best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with SQL Server, Databricks, and related technologies.

• Strong proficiency in T-SQL, MDX, DAX, Python, PySpark, and SSIS.

• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory (ADF), DBT, and Databricks Unity Catalog.

• Experience reading C# code and applying object-oriented principles.

• Knowledge of HIPAA, SOC 2, or other healthcare data compliance frameworks.

• Strong understanding of query performance optimization (CTEs, temp tables, table variables) and transaction lifecycles.

• Experience with database security, memory-optimized tables, and provisioning in Microsoft Azure.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
