About the Role
Virtix is seeking a Senior Database Engineer/DBA to join our Data & Analytics team. In this role, you will lead the design, optimization, and governance of the company’s data infrastructure, ensuring scalable and high-performing database systems. You will manage Microsoft Fabric and Azure-based environments, design enterprise data models, and deliver the “gold-layer” datasets used by Power BI developers. This is an excellent opportunity for a database professional with strong SQL, ETL, and healthcare data expertise to drive impactful analytics solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary owner of database objects including tables, views, and stored procedures.

  • Design and optimize datasets for Power BI reporting, ensuring consistency and eliminating duplication.

  • Create and maintain Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), application diagrams, and conceptual, logical, and physical data models.

  • Build scalable analytics models using star schema and snowflake designs.

  • Manage ETL pipelines and data orchestration through Azure Data Factory, ensuring reliability and auditability.

  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to define logic and validate KPIs.

  • Enforce database governance standards for naming conventions, indexing, and version control.

  • Oversee database performance tuning, query optimization, and large-scale healthcare data management.

  • Document schemas, transformations, and data definitions in a living data dictionary.

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and HITRUST.

  • Participate in training programs and uphold the company’s ethics and compliance standards.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a DBA or Data Engineer.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Fabric lakehouse architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers).

  • Strong SQL/T-SQL skills with optimization, indexing, and partitioning experience.

  • Proficiency in Azure SQL, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) for CI/CD pipelines and release management.

  • Proven ability to design and maintain ERDs, application diagrams, and data models.

  • Familiarity with star schema and snowflake schema design patterns.

  • Experience working with healthcare data (claims, coding, payer/provider reporting).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of healthcare coding and reimbursement standards (ICD-10, CPT).

  • Understanding of healthcare compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST).

  • Proficiency in Python for data validation and pipeline automation.

  • Experience with enterprise reporting tools such as Power BI Embedded and role-level security (RLS).


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Minimal or no travel required.

  • Regular computer-based work, eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity.

  • Ability to perform work in an environment with occasional interruptions.

  • Ability to lift or move items up to 20 lbs infrequently.

  • Prolonged sitting during periods of high activity and multiple deadlines.
