Position Summary

Captivation Software is seeking an experienced and motivated DevOps Engineer to join our agile development team. This role involves architecting and maintaining cloud and edge infrastructure, automating deployment processes, managing containerized environments, and ensuring operational excellence across our systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Linux administration, cloud computing (AWS), automation (Terraform/Ansible), and DevOps practices, along with a willingness to collaborate in a hybrid work environment and travel as needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain both cloud-based (AWS) and on-premises (Edge) infrastructure to support a variety of mission-critical applications.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment workflows using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and custom scripting (Python, Bash, Go).

  • Manage Kubernetes environments and container orchestration platforms, ensuring scalability and fault tolerance.

  • Collaborate with software development teams to seamlessly integrate their applications into the infrastructure environment.

  • Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot production systems to ensure high reliability and performance.

  • Participate in the development of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code best practices.

  • Keep up with evolving technologies, adopting new tools and methodologies to enhance system efficiency and security.

  • Provide on-call support as needed and perform other tasks aligned with organizational goals.

  • Travel up to 25% of the time to customer sites in Hawaii (subject to change based on project requirements).


Required Qualifications

  • Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance required. Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree with at least 9 years of relevant experience in DevOps or Software Development (Java experience preferred), OR

    • Master’s degree with 7 years of experience, OR

    • High school diploma with 13 years of related experience.

  • Strong experience in Linux system administration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

  • Proven expertise with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, EBS, etc.).

  • Skilled in configuration management using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.

  • Ability to develop and automate using scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.

  • Familiarity with Git and modern development toolchains.

  • Clear understanding of Agile methodologies and continuous integration/delivery principles.

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.

  • Willingness to work onsite in Columbia, MD 1–2 days per week on average.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as:

    • Hadoop, Spark, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Hive, Drill, Impala, Trino, Presto, etc.

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • EKS, CI/CD pipelines, Diode, Terraform, and other DevOps tooling.

  • Flexibility to participate in on-call rotation for system support.
