Job Overview
Versar Global Solutions is seeking a mid-level Network Engineer to support the Department of Homeland Security’s Wide Area Network (WAN). This role involves network design, deployment, troubleshooting, and modernization across a variety of technologies, including Cisco routing/switching, Palo Alto firewalls, F5 load balancers, and BlueCoat proxies. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, hands-on experience with enterprise networks, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities

Develop WAN network solutions for DHS components while adhering to DHS architecture and design standards.

Create project documentation including requirements, design diagrams, and reports.

Troubleshoot complex network incidents, perform root cause analysis, and document findings.

Participate in scheduled Change Requests (CRs) during night shifts and support on-call rotations.

Contribute to network modernization and cloud integration initiatives.

Provide input on high-level network architecture, operations, and security improvements.
Qualifications
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).

Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience with Cisco routing, switching, and firewalls.

Certifications:
-
Required – CCNA
-
Preferred – CCNP, CCIE, Palo Alto, or F5 certifications

Technical Skills:
-
Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and network protocols (TCP/IP, GRE, IPSEC, VRF).

Experience with firewalls, load balancers, and proxy servers.

Familiarity with IT security best practices and mitigation techniques.

Experience creating network design documents and diagrams.

Must be proficient in English (written and verbal).

Authorized to work in the United States.

Must pass background checks, MVR, and drug screening.
Preferred Software/Hardware Knowledge
Palo Alto, F5 Load Balancers, BlueCoat/Symantec Proxies, SDN/SD-WAN, AWS, Azure, O365, Unix/Linux, Python, Perl, NetScout.
Work Environment & Schedule

Primarily remote role; preference for candidates in MD/DC/VA region.

Must be available for night shifts and on-call support.
