About the Job

This position centers on utilizing advanced imaging techniques to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It involves operating radiologic equipment and applying technical expertise in a clinical setting to produce high-quality diagnostic images. This is an experienced-level clinical technologist role requiring a combination of vocational education, hands-on training, and work experience. The role typically involves routine problem-solving, moderate supervision, and effective communication skills, including the ability to interpret and explain information when necessary.

Job Overview

Under the guidance of clinical leadership, the Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures in accordance with radiologic standards, ensuring accuracy, safety, and timeliness. Imaging is conducted in both inpatient and outpatient settings based on physician orders.

The Diagnostic Radiology Department spans five key areas within the hospital: OR/portables, ER, outpatient, orthopedics, and fluoroscopy. As a Level 1 trauma center, we handle a wide range of high-acuity cases, providing care to a diverse patient population.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology

  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Radiation Control Board

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of directly related experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient identity and ensure exam requisitions match clinical needs and patient demographics

  • Accurately record necessary information on requisitions (e.g., physician name, tech name, exam notes)

  • Assess and ensure patient safety, including the appropriate use of support and restraint devices

  • Review images for technical accuracy and communicate findings to appropriate clinical staff

  • Properly label all images with anatomical orientation, lead markers, and patient identification

  • Assist with managing workflow in the department, especially in the supervisor’s absence

  • Maintain patient and hospital confidentiality at all times

  • Report incidents, incorrect or incomplete exams, and potential safety hazards promptly

  • Provide patient education, explaining procedures and expected timelines

  • Demonstrate initiative in solving patient concerns and addressing needs

  • Adhere to infection control, radiation safety, and departmental safety protocols

  • Minimize radiation exposure following ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) guidelines

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of assisting with patient transfers and operating portable X-ray machines

  • Ability to lift 30–35 lbs, stand and walk frequently, and sit occasionally

  • Wear protective gear (lead aprons/gloves) as needed during procedures

  • Manual dexterity for operating radiologic equipment

  • Adequate hearing and visual acuity for observing patients, reading monitors, and responding to alarms

Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of radiographic equipment and contrast-based procedures

  • Competence in patient positioning and safe transfer techniques

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, particularly for critical care scenarios

  • Proficient in using computer systems for documentation and exam processing

  • Calm and composed under pressure, especially during emergencies

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages and hospital staff

  • Demonstrated time management and problem-solving abilities
