John Evans Recruiting is seeking a Director of Audit and Attest for an innovative, 60-person CPA/consulting firm in the Baltimore area that operates on a unique fixed-fee model (no billable hours!). This is an exceptional opportunity to join a company with a fantastic internal culture and become an Owner after just one year of service, alongside seven other owners.

As Director, you’ll lead a team of 3-4 accountants, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of all audit and accounting projects. You’ll have the autonomy to elevate and expand the department through team mentorship, business development, and internal collaboration.

While the firm has Maryland offices, they are open to remote candidates in EST/CST time zones.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop departmental revenue targets and build a revenue pipeline.
  • Create annual priorities with clear objectives and milestones.
  • Scope and price agreements to meet profitability targets.
  • Perform quality control reviews.
  • Conduct project post-mortems.
  • Develop training plans for the team.
  • Stay current on industry changes and client needs.
  • Oversee annual process improvement reviews.

What you’ll need:

  • CPA required.
  • 7-15+ years of audit and accounting experience.
  • 3+ years of team management experience (mentorship and development).
  • Proven success in business development and client communication.
  • A desire for autonomy and strategic influence in growing the department.
  • A drive for professional and personal growth, including potential ownership.
  • Experience with nonprofits, employee benefit plans, and government contractors is a plus.
