Position Summary:

The Director of Finance & Accounting is responsible for building a best in class finance and accounting team, and for the quality of the accounting and financial reporting by Acme Hospitality. Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing pragmatic and effective financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems with a constant eye on driving bottom-line company profitability through cost savings and efficiencies. This position manages the daily operations of the accounting, payroll, FP&A, vendor relations, contract management, and IT activities, including providing oversight and direction for monthly and quarterly financial statement preparation and reporting including compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Takes ownership for developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting & finance policies and procedures including financial analysis of operations, cost accounting, treasury, and internal controls.

In this position, the Director of Finance & Accounting also participates in driving strategic initiatives like business development and managing growth. Finally, he/she will become a key liaison to Investors, Banks, and Ownership.

  • Leads the Company’s financial planning process including budgets, quarterly and long range forecasts through preparation, and analysis and interpretation of detailed financial forecasts including reforecasting
  • Analyzes and evaluates FP&A business practices, and and recommends actions to streamline processes, improve operational efficiencies, enhance the quality of financial analysis and reporting, and identify opportunities for reducing operational costs
  • Leads preparation of financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow analysis
  • Develops and maintains financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, balance sheet accounts, treasury, CapEx, OpEx, petty cash, balance sheet accounts, payroll, and other related activities.
  • Provides effective and timely financial information, business analytics and information to senior leadership to ensure the departments are effective in creating and executing the company’s strategic operating plan.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual reports to the investor and ownership group, including distributions and necessary tax paperwork relevant to ownership.
  • Identifies solutions, takes a lead role in their implementation and engages in ongoing assessment of all finance, accounting, internal controls, benefits management, and risk management process effectiveness and identification of improvement opportunities and solutions.
  • Ensures that all policies, procedures and internal controls are maintained and are in compliance with Federal, State and City regulations, in all matters as it relates to finance, accounting, tax and risk management. Follows generally accepted accounting standards for the restaurant and hotel industry.
  • Participates in acquisitions, annual tax filing, business related licenses & renewals, required compliance reporting, system changes and audits (internal and external). Represent the organization in interactions with governmental/legal/regulatory authorities.
  • Oversees vendor and contract management and serves as the company’s IT/software administrator
  • Serves as a strategic partner in business development, takes ownership of ProFormas, assists in raising and managing funds from banks and investors to manage growth. Monitors construction expenses.
  • Ensures Finance, Accounting and Risk Management directives are communicated and adhered to by all associates of Acme Hospitality
  • Remain current regarding finance and accounting practices and guidelines, to assess industry trends and best practices in the Finance, Accounting, and Risk Management functions
  • Make customers and operations the primary focus of one’s actions; developing and sustaining productive and influential customer relationships; creating/executing plans and solutions in collaboration with the customer to meet their strategic business needs.
  • Actively support and follow company policies.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred, or equivalent experience. MBA and CPA preferred.
  • Twelve (12) years’ experience, at least eight (8) of which must have been at a Director level or above.
  • Variety of local, divisional and/or broad geographic or multi-property Finance and Accounting leadership roles and experiences, with proven impact and accomplishments.
  • Establishment, development and leadership of Finance and Accounting teams.
  • Implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of core Accounting and Finance processes across multiple locations.
  • Experience working in a matrix reporting relationship with Corporate and Field/Property resources.
  • Hospitality Finance experience preferred but not required

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of finance and accounting practices and principles, including GAAP

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and other office programs.
