Director of Pharmacy

Company Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Pharmacist-In-Charge is responsible for accurately filling prescriptions using appropriate pharmaceutical practices, including compounding and dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other authorized providers. This role involves educating patients and healthcare professionals about potential drug interactions, side effects, proper storage, and correct usage of medications. The Pharmacist-In-Charge must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and respectfully with staff, patients, families, and visitors of all ages, while remaining mindful of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on drug information, including appropriate dosing, indications, contraindications, side effects, and proper administration.

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the organization’s mission, goals, and operational policies as outlined in its By-Laws and Policy and Procedure Manuals.

  • Supervise all aspects of medication preparation and distribution, including packaging, labeling, measuring, compounding, storing, charging, and documentation.

  • Manage and maintain pharmaceutical inventory; oversee ordering and restocking of medications, chemicals, and related supplies.

  • Submit timely monthly reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

  • Promote preventive health care practices and support wellness across all stages of life.

  • Ensure secure storage and proper handling of all medications and pharmaceuticals.

  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations and supervise pharmacy staff to ensure efficient workflow and compliance.

  • Counsel patients and healthcare providers on medication use, potential interactions, side effects, storage, and adherence.

  • Establish and implement healthcare protocols and standards for each medical program and service.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records and personal health information.

  • Actively participate in quality improvement and performance evaluation initiatives.

  • Keep accurate, up-to-date prescription and patient records in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Fulfill all administrative and credentialing requirements to maintain regulatory compliance.

  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior.

  • Enhance pharmacy productivity and staff performance, ensuring quality service and patient satisfaction.

  • Stay current with community health developments by attending relevant training sessions, workshops, and seminars.

  • Display cultural sensitivity and a positive, respectful attitude in all interactions with patients, staff, and external partners.

  • Attend provider meetings to share insights on drug therapies and emerging pharmaceutical trends.

  • Directly manage pharmacy personnel and develop quality assurance procedures to promote safe, ethical, and compliant practices.

  • Maintain and share an updated inventory list of direct relief medications with the clinical team.

  • Ensure all pharmacy practices and procedures comply with Board of Pharmacy regulations.

  • Maintain reliable and punctual attendance.

  • Accurately verify and submit timecards at the end of each pay period.

  • Complete all assigned tasks and responsibilities as needed.

  • Meet IT and security training deadlines as required.

  • Conduct timely performance evaluations for pharmacy staff, including six-month and annual reviews.

  • Provide constructive feedback and support employee development through ongoing training and written performance notices (PCNs).


Job Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy.

  • Completion of a recognized pharmacy internship program.

  • Valid and current Mississippi Pharmacist License.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations governing pharmacy practice.

  • Proficient in drug compounding and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience serving as a licensed Pharmacist-In-Charge.

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical sciences, including drug interactions, chemical properties, and therapeutic equivalence.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Capable of responding effectively to patient and staff emergencies.


Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to maintain visual focus, auditory attention, manual dexterity, and full-body mobility to perform tasks efficiently.

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach, kneel, twist, and rotate forearms; must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling over 10 pounds.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain physical stamina throughout the workday.
