The Distribution Controller I supports senior controllers in maintaining system reliability, power quality, and customer service. This role is essential to both routine operations and emergency response.
Job Summary
The Distribution Controller I works under the guidance of senior controllers to monitor, analyze, and control the Santee Cooper distribution and sub-transmission systems. The role includes supporting emergency operations, field personnel, and customer service activities on a 24-hour basis.
Key Responsibilities

Monitor substation equipment, line devices, and capacitor banks using Distribution SCADA.

Assist in writing field switching orders and coordinating switching activities.

Review scheduled distribution switching operations.

Coordinate transmission switching affecting distribution facilities.

Enter and analyze outage and trouble reports in the Outage Management System (OMS).

Update diagrams and maps of distribution and sub-transmission systems.

Maintain databases for Lifeline Customers, equipment tracking, and contractors.

Communicate with internal and external customers regarding scheduled and emergency work.

Support after-hours customer service including account setup, transfers, and power restoration.

Monitor weather conditions affecting system reliability and support emergency operations.

Complete training to develop skills for advancement as a Distribution Controller.

Perform tasks and support initiatives to improve system processes and data integrity.
Position Requirements

Education & Experience:
-
Associate’s Degree in Engineering + 4 years electric utility experience OR High School Diploma/GED + 6 years electric utility experience.

Ability to perform under crisis situations with clear and professional communication.

Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts and overtime as needed.

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
