About the Role:
We are seeking Low Voltage or High Voltage Electrical Construction Fitters to join SSE’s in-house team. You’ll be involved in the construction of electrical infrastructure within live substations, covering voltages from 11kV up to 132kV across the Southern England region.
This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced HV fitters and those from an electrical trade background interested in developing a career in high-voltage networks.
You’ll work in a supportive environment where safety, teamwork, and development are key priorities.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver HV electrical construction projects in live substations (11kV–132kV)
-
Install and commission CT Metering apparatus
-
Operate mobile equipment (Telehandlers, MEWPs, scaffolding – training provided)

Comply with CDM regulations and company safety procedures
-
Maintain accurate documentation and follow site standards
-
Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and team members
Essential Skills and Experience:
-
Knowledge of electrical systems: containment, cabling, small wiring

Experience installing and maintaining plant and systems
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills
-
High regard for health and safety compliance
-
Full, clean UK driving licence
-
Flexible to travel and work across multiple sites in Southern England
Desirable (but not essential):

Experience working in live substation environments

Authorisations on electricity distribution networks

Familiarity with:
-
DC battery systems, panel wiring, cable glanding

AC/DC wiring, CTs/VTs, circuit breakers, isolators
