About the Role:

We are seeking Low Voltage or High Voltage Electrical Construction Fitters to join SSE’s in-house team. You’ll be involved in the construction of electrical infrastructure within live substations, covering voltages from 11kV up to 132kV across the Southern England region.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced HV fitters and those from an electrical trade background interested in developing a career in high-voltage networks.

You’ll work in a supportive environment where safety, teamwork, and development are key priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver HV electrical construction projects in live substations (11kV–132kV)

  • Install and commission CT Metering apparatus

  • Operate mobile equipment (Telehandlers, MEWPs, scaffolding – training provided)

  • Comply with CDM regulations and company safety procedures

  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow site standards

  • Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and team members

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of electrical systems: containment, cabling, small wiring

  • Experience installing and maintaining plant and systems

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • High regard for health and safety compliance

  • Full, clean UK driving licence

  • Flexible to travel and work across multiple sites in Southern England

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience working in live substation environments

  • Authorisations on electricity distribution networks

  • Familiarity with:

    • DC battery systems, panel wiring, cable glanding

    • AC/DC wiring, CTs/VTs, circuit breakers, isolators

  • Qualifications in:

    • Working at heights

    • Confined space

    • COSHH, LOLEr

    • Telehandler, scaffolding, SMSTS, furzeweld
