About the Job

The University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a skilled Electrician (Journeyman or Master, licensed by the Colorado Electrical Board) to join our Housing Facilities Services (HFS) team. This role plays a key part in maintaining, repairing, and upgrading electrical systems across student residence halls, apartment complexes, and commercial facilities on campus.

As part of the Division of Student Life, you’ll ensure safe and efficient electrical operations while supporting an environment where students live, learn, and thrive.


Key Responsibilities

General Electrical Service

  • Install, repair, and maintain wiring, outlets, switches, motion sensors, and lighting systems

  • Troubleshoot localized power outages and service pole lights and exterior systems

  • Replace range hoods, exhaust fans, and hand dryers

Preventive Maintenance

  • Inspect and maintain panels, circuits, and automated lighting systems

  • Conduct circuit mapping, load testing, and safety inspections

Safety Practices

  • Adhere to lockout/tagout, ladder, lifting, and confined space safety procedures

  • Follow all OSHA, state, and university safety guidelines

Project Support

  • Participate in capital and controlled maintenance projects

  • Review drawings, schematics, and submittals

  • Act as a subject matter expert in electrical systems

Additional Duties

  • Support fire alarm systems

  • Operate university fleet vehicles

  • Assist with snow removal and on-call duties as required

What You Need to Succeed

  • Required: Current Journeyman Electrician license from the Colorado Electrical Board

  • Preferred: 3+ years of Journeyman experience and NICET II Fire Alarm certification

  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, construction drawings, and troubleshooting

  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and customer service skills
