The Elementary Teacher provides direct instruction to students at the elementary level to achieve Framingham Public Schools’ mission of high academic expectations, equitable access to instruction, and closing the achievement gap. This role supports academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and mental health needs to ensure the development of the whole child while implementing the district curriculum.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan programs of study that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity

  • Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students

  • Use instructional methods and materials appropriate for stated objectives

  • Assess and report student progress regularly

  • Consult with colleagues, parents, and students as needed

  • Support district policies and maintain classroom order

  • Supervise aides and volunteers when assigned

  • Attend staff meetings and participate in committees and professional development

  • Actively work to create inclusive and equitable classroom environments

  • Other duties as assigned

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Early Childhood (PreK–2) or Elementary (1–6) with SEI Endorsement required

  • Additional content area licensure encouraged (subject to DESE requirements)

Training and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

  • Experience supporting diverse students and families in equitable, inclusive ways

  • Knowledge of specialized content areas, relevant laws, and procedures

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

  • Ability to apply research-based educational practices

  • Problem-solving, data collection, and decision-making abilities

  • Organizational skills to balance multiple responsibilities

  • Comfort with instructional technology, especially Google tools

  • Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and needs

  • Regular and reliable attendance required

Physical Working Conditions

  • Ability to move throughout school buildings and assist students with physical needs

  • May lift up to 20 lbs. (books, supplies, etc.)

  • Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, or moving quickly in classroom settings

  • Exposure to normal school environment, with occasional outdoor duties (recess, drills)

  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids, pathogens, or student behavioral challenges

Terms of Employment

  • Covered under the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract

  • The district reserves the right to transfer personnel among buildings as needed
