Responsibilities
- Confidently engage with and present to various stakeholders, including customer decision-makers and project teams.
- Provide technical support to cross-functional teams for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction.
- Collaborate with engineering disciplines, Project Managers, and Design Phase Managers to ensure the successful execution of design projects.
- Contribute to design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects by applying sound engineering principles while adhering to industry standards and business practices.
- Lead technical design efforts on 2–3 large design projects annually, covering all project scopes.
- Mentor and guide engineering professionals, fostering professional development.
- Review and approve technical specifications and major equipment vendor quotes, in consultation with the Design Phase Manager or Lead Engineer.
- Collect and analyze data to provide well-informed recommendations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of technical data following engineering policies and Mortenson’s QA/QC procedures.
- Conduct data analysis, engineering calculations, and studies to develop both preliminary and detailed designs for large and small projects.
- Develop technical specifications and oversee drafting and design tasks to ensure compliance with design schedules.
- Manage multiple projects while delivering a comprehensive design package that meets engineering standards and safety codes.
- Apply advanced knowledge of engineering principles, business practices, and product/program requirements.
- Plan and execute work requiring sound judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard techniques and procedures.
- Maintain a first-time document review accuracy rate of 80%.
- Apply engineering formulas such as S = P + jQ to relevant calculations and problem-solving.
- Verify construction alignment with civil and protection engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings and QA/QC assessments.
- Develop and assess technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages.
- Create detailed design solutions that align with customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards.
Qualifications
- Experience with project controls software such as Procore or Unifier.
- Familiarity with system integration, product adaptation, and design development for complex systems.
- Electrical industry expertise gained from hands-on experience or an electrical background, with preference for knowledge in power inverters and/or DC battery solutions.
- Strong design optimization skills, balancing technical parameters with economic considerations.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as CYMCAP, CDEGS, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong experience using Microsoft Excel for tracking and analyzing components and configurations.
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of seven years of relevant experience.
- FE certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience in the T&D (Transmission & Distribution) industry, with preferred expertise in Energy Storage, Solar, and Wind design.
- Deep understanding of discipline-specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies.
