About the Opportunity
University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is offering a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our Electrical Healthcare Engineering Apprenticeship programme. This 4-year, hands-on role combines theoretical study with practical training to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to become a fully qualified Hospital Electrical Engineer.
This structured apprenticeship leads to NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, with real-world experience in a hospital environment and mentorship from a team of experienced healthcare engineers.

What You’ll Learn & Do
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will:

Assist with the maintenance and repair of hospital electrical systems and equipment
-
Undertake electrical installation and testing in compliance with regulations

Gain hands-on experience in:

High Voltage (HV) & Low Voltage (LV) systems
-
Nurse Call Systems
-
Fire Alarm Systems
-
Building Energy Management Systems (BeMS)

Use tools and equipment safely and efficiently
-
Learn how to maintain bed-head services for patient safety
-
Gain exposure to computer-based maintenance systems and reporting

Follow health and safety practices and contribute to plant room safety

Provide and receive reports, records, and technical documentation
Training & Pay Structure
Pay is adjusted annually based on time to qualification:

More than 3 years from completion: 60% of qualified pay band max
-
2–3 years remaining: 65%
-
1–2 years remaining: 70%
-
Final year (up to 12 months): 75%
